The Baan Than Namchai Orphanage in Thailand needed an identity for an online and brick-and-mortar store that sells locally made craft goods and helps fund the orphanage.
A consistent idea that ‘together individuals can create something beneficial’ was applied throughout all the applications of the brand, starting with the name chosen for the store. The Thai word matmii is a local silk dyeing and weaving technique that produces iconic patterns with a unique threaded edge texture.
Two custom support graphics are based on the threaded edge of matmii, and also the bundles that the silk strands are tied into prior to dyeing. Friendly circular shapes were chosen for the logo and graphics, allowing the ‘i’’s in matmii to resemble two people coming together.
