A cover and chapter layouts for a book on the photographic exhibition Foto: Modernism in Central Europe, 1918-1945.
The theme of light and shadow was used for the design of the cover image, because light and shadow are two important elements in the art of photography. It was discovered that when a stencil with the letters ‘fo’ was illuminated from behind, it created a shadow that forms the letters ‘to.’ Together the light and shadow spell out the exhibition title ‘foto.’
The internal page design is based on the Van de Graaf canon and features photos from the exhibition arranged with body text, captions, and chapter headings.
